Duke of Edinburgh's Award
Be the best you can be
Wilsthorpe School is very proud to offer students the opportunity to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The award is both nationally and internationally recognised, giving students the chance to develop their own personal skills, as well as support the wider community in which they live. The award programme is delivered by a dedicated team of staff who are passionate about the Duke of Edinburgh Award and helping our students succeed.
“The DofE Award programme here at Wilsthorpe not only allows our students to supplement their learning with a range of extra-curricular activities, it helps to prepare them for the world beyond the school gates”
Mr D Hobbs, Headteacher
There are three levels to the Duke of Edinburgh Award which we offer at Wilsthorpe School:
Each award level has four main sections:
Volunteering: Supporting the local community by offering time to a charity or non-profit organisation or helping local people who need it. Ideas for different volunteering activities can be found on this document.
Physical: Keeping active and healthy with a range of sports, fitness or other physical activities. Many activities are run by staff in school, as well as clubs outside of school. Ideas for different physical activities can be found on this document.
Skill: Learn something new or develop your expertise in a certain skill. This can be in anything from cooking to crocheting! Ideas for different skill activities can be found on this document.
Expedition: This section is run by the DofE staff here at Wilsthorpe. Involves you getting out into the Peak District (Lake District at Gold Level) and putting your navigation and teamwork skills to the test. You will also be camping for the number of nights required by each level of the award, which is an amazing experience!

UPDATE: JANUARY 2021
Our Bronze Expedition for current Year 10 students is still planned to go ahead on Saturday 8th – Sunday 9th May 2021, starting at the Baslow Car Park, camping overnight at Barn Farm Campsite, and finishing at the Over Haddon Car Park.
However, please be aware that this date is constantly under review and subject to change in line with government COVID-19 restrictions.
In the meantime, all Bronze Award students should still be working towards completing their three sections (Volunteering, Physical and Skill) and uploading their evidence and assessors reports onto eDofE. Both eDofE and the assessor reports can be accessed online using the links above.
Thank you for your continued support.
