Library and Information Centre
At Wilsthorpe we are proud of our Library and Information Centre which is a vibrant, well-loved
and popular space. Our mission is to support the curriculum and also to promote reading for
Information Centre Managers:
Mrs Trickey (Monday and Tuesday)
Mrs Briggs (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday)
The Library is always staffed by a qualified Librarian. Students can also get involved by applying to become a pupil library assistant where they will undergo training to help at break and lunch times.
Library Lessons and Access:
Students in Key Stage 3 have timetabled library lessons once a fortnight. The facility is also open to all students at registration, morning break, and lunch time and after school most days.
We stock over 7,000 fiction and non-fiction books for students and staff to use. We also have 27 networked computers and a colour printer. We stock approximately 200 films on DVD and hold newspapers, academic journals and magazines. We also house a careers section including higher education prospectuses and information on apprenticeships. Students are allowed to borrow two items for two weeks, although further loans can be borrowed on agreement with the librarians.
Clubs and Activities:
Throughout the year we run various activities to promote reading for pleasure including celebrating World Book Day, author events and shadowing book awards (like the Carnegie and the Derbyshire Schools’ Book Award). We run three after school clubs on a weekly basis: Tuesday – Chess club, Wednesday – Book club and Thursday – Film club. At Film Club students enjoy watching the latest movies and participating in film related activities like make-up workshops. Students are also welcome to come and use the Library to take out books and complete homework during these times
