Outcomes
The outcomes we achieve at Wilsthorpe Sixth Form are consistently exceeding expectation.
We sit 4th in Derbyshire* for average point score with an above average score for progress (*Not including Independent schools).

Our outcomes mean that our students have gone on to impressive destinations after completing their study with us. These destinations include; University of Oxford, University of Nottingham, MIT (USA), University of Warwick, University of Durham, University of Birmingham and University of Manchester.

Our students have also been able to gain places with fantastic higher apprenticeship opportunities including police apprenticeships and aerospace engineering apprenticeships.
Quality of Teaching and Learning
We are placed in the top 25% nationally for quality of teaching and learning (ALPS 2018). We have experienced A Level and BTEC tutors for each of our qualifications who expertly guide the students during timetabled lessons.

Our students are encouraged to use their study periods to discuss their learning with each other and with their subject tutors to ensure they can become excellent independent learners. We find this academic environment leads our students to be able to study successfully in higher education settings.
Pastoral Support
Every student in our Sixth Form is provided with an experienced personal tutor. The tutors help to guide the students with use of their study time and careers advice. Tutor sessions are timetabled each morning where we cover a PSHCE curriculum whilst also allowing time for the Sixth Form students to take up mentoring of younger students.

In tutor time our students cover; study skills, growth mindset, critical thinking, relationships, financial capability, preparing for exams (including dealing with exam stress). Please find a more detailed overview of our PSHCE programme here.

Students at Wilsthorpe Sixth Form are also invited to take part in mentoring lower school students. This is done both as a pastoral support in tutor time and academic support in lesson time. Allowing our students to take on such roles has meant our students can develop fantastic personal statements as they look to leave us at the end of their study.

At Wilsthorpe Sixth Form we are also lucky to have fantastic links with two of our local universities (University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University). Both of these universities provide our students with support and guidance when looking at their next steps upon successful completion of their Sixth Form qualifications.
Facilities
Sixth Form students have access to two purpose built rooms; a larger room is available for group study and a smaller room with IT equipment for silent study.
The students also have access to Sixth Form specific reading materials in their study rooms. Each student who attends Wilsthorpe Sixth Form is also provided with a netbook to aid with their independent study.

This ‘Wider Reading and Discovery’ Booklet has been put together to help you to develop your interests in the wider world around you and your chosen fields of study.
One of the best ways you stand out during your Sixth Form studies is through the amount of independent study you undertake outside of the classroom. Regardless of your future plans, the ability to extend yourself and research independently into your interests is an invaluable skill – this will support your university applications and/or future job applications and interviews.
All universities expect more than just classroom knowledge, which is where these texts and activities come in; these are academic enrichment tasks that show you are interested in your studies beyond what is on the syllabus.
